June 7th, Settling In

Settling In

Today was a day of exactly what the title says, settling in. I woke up around 2pm New Jersey time, still not used to the time change, and slumped down the stairs to lunch. I had a beautiful, really beautiful, roast beef sandwich and a cup of coffee. While I ate, my cousin Edie told me about all the crazy girls, lucky boys, drama, and everything else at her school. I find it extremely interesting to be able see into someone else's life, to not recognize any names or faces but to only know these people from one persons' perception of them. You meet strangers through another person's eyes, strangers you'd otherwise not know existed. You're probably thinking, Cam, it's not that deep, but I've found it much more enriching to think deeply about the small things rather than over think the big things. The small things you can control, change, and take what you want from them. If you try to think deeply about the big things, the things you can't change, you may drive yourself insane (at least I tend to).

I continued my day with washing my face and putting on powdered sunscreen (yes it's a thing!) then went to walk the dogs with Edie. I got to walk Buddy, the laid back one of the two dogs, Edie got the new puppy who was a wreck to walk and had to be constantly "repositioned" by a yank of the leash.
We talked and walked as I observed the scenery, Jersey is a beautiful place, and brought the dogs back in one piece. We sat in Edie's room while I looked at her yearbook and she drew. I had never really known she was into art, but she worked steadily with her multi-colored sharpies and created some thing I'll probably hang in my room and keep forever. She had taken one of my photos on my Instagram and created it totally different and new. It was really cool to me that someone would take one of my basic pictures and be inspired enough to create something so unique, I love it. I challenge you to look through my Instagram and find the picture the inspired this :

We finished the evening with a dinner with the family at a country club which had the absolute best sweet potato fries. We sat outside overlooking the golf course and lucky me there were pink rose bushes all around. Dinner was delicious and we said our goodbyes and came back home. I had a halarious FaceTime call with my crazy sister about all the trouble she almost falls into (she's been incredibly lucky these last couple months) and gave me a something to laugh about. I'm actually laughing right this exact moment just thinking about it. That leads me to now, sitting in bed. Thinking back, something that made today different  was that a lot of my friends reached out to me; One showed their concerns, one told me how excited they were for me, one told me all about their day and when I crossed their mind (which was uniquely special) and two simply just said they missed me. Having friends take time out of their day to reach out to me reminds me why I can't go MIA, which I try to do sometimes, but mostly reminds me why I shouldn't. Go half missing for awhile, see who comes looking, then keep them.
